Champlain Valley Fair, August 28-Sept 6; Vermont's largest fair, outside of Burlington. I've been attending this fair faithfully since I was a child... and last year was the last year we expect to attend. No longer the ag fair it used to be, now more of a traveling amusement for suburban folks. But lots of noise, rides, and fair food. www.cvfair.com

Vermont State Fair, September 3-12 ; Vermont's second largest fair. Good midway, farm museum, good crafts.. one of the top 10 events in the state of Vermont. Rutland: www.vermontstatefair.net

The Tunbridge World's Fair (Drum Roll Please...) Sept 16-19 The last bastion of old Vermont. Small, unworldly, unsophisticated, with no highlights whatsoever. Wouldn't dream of missing it. www.Tunbridgefair.com

The VT Sheep and Wool Festival October 2-3, Champlain Valley Fairgrounds (outside of Burlington) sponsored by the Vermont Sheep Breeder's Association. A must for anyone looking for fine wools, the selection is stunning. Fine cheese, supplies, and sheep, for sale. www.vermontsheep.org

The South Hero Applefest and Craft Show October 9-10, Vermont's largest, neatest, apple festival.  Free entertainment, music, craft show, flea markets... and it all started as a little town event ten years ago or so.  One of the only opportunities most people will have to taste antique and rare types of apples... just a fun, non-commercial, fall event.

Vermont Farm Show, January 25-27, 2005 in Barre Vermont. An ag show for ag people. A number of farm organizations tack their annual meeting onto this show. Good place to buy for the upcoming spring. website
